The GT was the touring version of the 550 twin-cam four, with air-assisted forks, a Uni-Trak rear end and a larger tank. Road testers found it smooth and strong in the mid-range, with good cruising and reliability, while noting weak low-rpm performance and cold-start difficulties. It came with a drum rear brake and gave the comfort-first buyer a sensible alternative to the sport 550s.
